Can I get a straighter smile without traditional braces?

Many people want a straighter smile but hesitate to commit to years of metal wires and brackets. At Longmont Dental, Dr. Wyatt Knechtel led the introduction of SureSmile clear aligners — a comfortable, nearly invisible alternative that most patients complete in about 12 months.

What is SureSmile?

SureSmile is a clear aligner system that straightens teeth using a series of custom-made, removable plastic trays. Each set of aligners applies gentle, controlled pressure to gradually shift your teeth into the desired position.

Made from clear plastic, the aligners are nearly invisible during everyday life — a discreet alternative to metal braces. Because they are removable, you take them out to eat, brush, and floss, making oral hygiene easier throughout your treatment.

Your treatment path

How SureSmile treatment works

Your first appointment is a consultation where Dr. Wyatt reviews the parts of your smile you want to improve and confirms SureSmile is right for you. Any gum disease or tooth decay is treated first so treatment starts with a healthy foundation.

Using a precise 3D model of your teeth, we create a treatment plan that maps each stage of movement. Our digital lab produces your custom aligner sets — you wear each pair for about two weeks, 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat or clean your teeth.

Most patients in our office have achieved their goals in 12 months or less. Once you complete treatment, a retainer keeps your results lasting.

Who can SureSmile help?

SureSmile is effective for a range of orthodontic concerns. Gaps between teeth can affect your smile's appearance and trap food that leads to irritation — SureSmile closes those spaces. Crooked or misaligned teeth that affect function and aesthetics are gradually straightened over your treatment period.

Malocclusions such as overbites, underbites, and crossbites can make chewing and speaking uncomfortable; SureSmile corrects these bite relationships. Overcrowded teeth that are difficult to clean can also be realigned to improve both hygiene and appearance.

Not everyone is a candidate for clear aligners. Dr. Wyatt will examine your smile and confirm eligibility before recommending treatment.
